Inside the Prisons

Providing Emotional, Spiritual, and Reintegration Support for Inmates and Their Families.

Spiritual Support

Priest and Ministers of the Eucharist visit prisons regularly and offer Holy Mass on a weekly basis.

Volunteers run prayer services, alpha Courses, and Bible studies. Prisoners are able to learn more about scripture, Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Restorative Justice and Family Support

Restorative Justice approaches crime as breaking relationships between the offender, victim and community, rather than breaking the law. Restorative justice promotes restoration, restitution and reconciliation between those affected by the crime. The healing enables each person to continue their lives without the devastating effects of the crime. It is a unique way of building a safe, crime free, South Africa

Bursary Support

In our experience of working with inmates at various correctional centers, we have learned that many returned to prison after a few months of release. The majority return due to a lack of support from their family and community. The Board of Prison Care and Support Network (PCSN) felt that we should empower and motivate the inmates through tertiary education.

ART

Research has revealed that the process of producing art can decrease the number of disciplinary reports written on inmates who participated in an arts program (Brewster, 1983), and the California Department of Corrections (1987) revealed that recidivism decreased for those who participated in the state’s Arts In Corrections program.
